The Department of Physics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata welcomes expressions of interest for one academic position at Tenure Track Researcher or Associate Professor levels covered through a "Direct Call" procedure.
The Direct Calls program of the Italian Ministry of Research (MUR) provides opportunities to fund academic positions for scientists and scholars to move to Italy who are employed in universities or research centres abroad and have been for at least three years with an equivalent position.
The Department of Physics is interested in a direct call of a scholar with expertise in the following field of the physical sciences:
Experimental physics of superconductivity, superconductor devices and of low temperatures
Within the field indicated, it will be considered of particular interest the experience in clean room processes (mask design and fabrication, mask aligners operation, thin film deposition) and experience with the instrumentation of superconducting detectors, dynamics of Josephson junctions, cryogenic systems, and SQUID readout.
Successful candidates will be expected to actively contribute to the department's academic program, its strategy and governance, as well as providing scientific leadership and applying to national and international research funding schemes.
Expressions of interest must be sent by 5th July 2026 at the address fisica@roma2.infn.it. Candidates must send a curriculum vitae, a list of publications and a statement of research interests. Expressions of interest will be reviewed by a Search Committee that will reduce the number of applicants up to a maximum of 2, within 60 days after the deadline. Selected candidates will be invited to a meeting with the Director of the Department to assess mutual circumstances and expectations and to agree a date for a seminar, in person or online, open to all staff of the Department. After the seminars, the Search Committee will propose one candidate for the Direct Call that the Director submits to the Departmental Staff Committee, or alternatively it may suggest not to proceed with any application.
The Direct Call recruitment process involves several approval steps and requires the endorsement of the Ministry of Research. The procedure is therefore expected to be completed and the position to be filled within about one year from the notification of the decision of the Department.

For successful candidates having held academic positions abroad, there are some tax benefits, as, for example, a tax relief on 90% of the salary that may be granted for a duration up to six years.
