From CERN in Ginevra to Jefferson Lab in USA to solve a 35-years long mistery about quarks

22 February 2019: The CLAS experiment at the CEBAF facilty (Jefferson Laboratory, USA), has published in Nature a study on the behaviuor of quarks which might explain a 35-years long mystery. The result has been obtained with the contribution of researchers at the University and INFN of Roma Tor Vergata. For further information:

THE EUROPEAN UNION HAS LAUNCHED A NEW PROJECT: “ESCAPE” – The European Science Cluster of Astronomy & Particle Physics ESFRI Research Infrastructures

The group of Solar Physics of the Physics Department of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” participates in this project funded with 16 million euro and coordinated in Rome by Prof. Dario Del Moro.

The mail goal of the Project, supported by the European Union, through the INFRA-EOSC-04-2018 Proposal, is the implementation of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), a cloud for research data allowing a universal access through a single online platform.

ESCAPE, which aims to analyze a big amount of data science and research, will gradually open up its user base to public sector and industries.

Principal Investigator at UNITOV: Prof. Dario Del Moro.

Press release

According to QS World rating-Physics and Astronomy 2015 the Physics Department  is in the top 100, as in the years 2014, 2013 ,2012, and in the third position among the italian Physics DEpartments link . The Physics Department has also been selected in 2010 for the CHE (Centre For Higher Education) Excellence ranking. The Physics Department is the fundamental  landmark of the Tor Vergata University for  Physics, both from the research point of view and the education. The Faculty staff is composed by   38 professors and 23 researchers.

The undergraduate and graduate education  in Physics aim to the development of a broad background in basic physics and broadly-applicable problem-solving skills.  Our students are prepared for careers in research and teaching at the school and  university levels and careers in many other fields as well. At the undergraduate level, we offer tutorials called  Corso di Laurea and  Laurea Magistrale in Fisica,   corso  di Laurea in Scienze dei Materiali and Laurea Magistrale in Scienze e Tecnologie dei Materiali. At the graduate level, the Department offers programs in  Physics and  in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Space Science.

The Physics Department engages in theoretical and experimental research that spans most of the central topics of modern physics. There are  research groups working in the areas of the experimental high-energy physics, theoretical particle physics and string theory,  theoretical and experimental condensed matter physics, astrophysics, biological physics and finally physics of complex systems. A Division (Sezione) of the Italian National Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics is located at our Department.
