Chiara Calascibetta is a PhD student (Dept. Of Physics University of Rome Tor vergata) and she works under the supervision of Prof. Luca Biferale, in collaboration with Dr. M. Cencini (CNR, Rome), Dr. A. Celani (ICTP, Trieste) and Dr. F. Borra (LPENS, Paris).

She is specializing in the field of Statistical Mechanics with interest in turbulent and complex systems. Her main research activity is focused on the study of control problems using both data-driven (Reinforcement Learning) and equation-informed (Optimal Control) approaches. In particular, she is studying systems of Lagrangian active particles navigating in complex fluids, optimizing their navigation in order to achieve specific goals (i.e., from a theoretical point of view, in order to understand which are the most important degrees of freedom involved in the dynamics).

AWARDS & SCHOLARSHIPS:

• Euromech Young Scientist Prize at the 18th European Turbulence Conference for the best oral presentation given by an attendee under the age of 35 years. 
• National Award Milla Baldo Ceolin 2021 "Women in Theoretical Physics”, award given by INFN to the 10 best Master Theses in Theoretical Physics in 2021.
• Scholarship “Enrico Persico” 2021 - Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei 1st CLASSIFIED. Motivation: for the best four students enrolled in the Master’s degree in Physics in the public universities of Rome.
• Deserving Student Award, a.y. 2017/18, 2018/19, 2019/20. 1st classified among all students enrolled in the bachelor/master’s degree in Physics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
• Winner of the Award student of particular merit, a.y. 2017/18. Reserved for the 5% most talented students at the University of Rome Tor Vergata enrolled in the 2016/17 a.y.

Chiara Calascibetta è una studentessa di dottorato presso il Dipartimento di Fisica dell'Università degli studi di Roma Tor Vergata. Lavora sotto la supervisione del Prof. Luca Biferale e in collaborazione con il Dr. M. Cencini (CNR, Roma), il Dr. A. Celani (ICTP, Trieste) e il Dr. F. Borra (LPENS, Parigi).

Si sta specializzando nel campo della Meccanica Statistica, con interesse per i sistemi complessi e turbolenti. La sua principale attività di ricerca verte sullo studio dei problemi di controllo, utilizzando sia metodi basati sui dati (data-driven) come Reinforcement Learning e altri algoritmi AI, che approcci analitici basati sulla teoria del controllo ottimale. In particolare, sta studiando la dinamica di particelle attive Lagrangiane all'interno di fluidi complessi, ottimizzando la loro navigazione al fine di raggiungere obiettivi specifici, quali ad esempio minimizzare il tempo di navigazione. Da un punto di vista teorico, ciò può essere tradotto come capire quali sono i gradi di libertà più sensibili coinvolti nella dinamica.
