VESUVIO SPECTROMETER AT ISIS
Technology Marketplace - Connecting people to Technology
Instrumentation for neutron spectroscopy at the electron Volt energies is being developed within VESUVIO and e.VERDI projects, at the ISIS pulsed neutron source.
The scientific achievements of neutron scattering have been so far of great relevance to the progress in many areas of condensed matter research including solid state physics, chemistry, materials science, biology, and polymers (Nobel Prize in Physics 1994). With the advent of pulsed neutron sources unique spectral characteristics have become available for spectroscopic studies in condensed matter.
ISIS is the world's leading pulsed neutron and muon source, located at the Rutherford-Appleton laboratory.
Sice 1985 an intense experimental program in Neutron Scattering at eV energies has benn developed.
The R&D in instrumentation for Neutron Scattering at eV energies include: bullet  e.VERDI project;

bullet  VESUVIO project;

bullet  γ detectors for inelastic neutron scattering (HEND Task within the TECHNI project).

The Science program includes:

bullet  momentum distributions in quantum and molecular fluids and solids;

bullet  hydrogen momentum distributions in metal hydrides and catalysts;

bullet  high energy magnetic excitations such as crystal field levels, Stoner particle hole continua;

bullet  high energy electronic excitations to probe band structure.
