Atmospheric turbulence produces rapid fluctuations of the air refractive index which contribute to reduce the spatial resolution of the images acquired by ground based telescopes. Adaptive Optics (AO) is a technology able to make a real time compensation of these effects by using a wavefront sensor and a deformable mirror.

Recently the Italian Space Agency funded a Phase A study for the realization of the solar satellite ADAHELI in response to a proposal by Francesco Berrilli of our Solar and Space Physics Team. Some of the scientists of this group participated in the past to several missions (NASA, ESA, ASI) to study the solar wind, the interplanetary electron density, solar and galactic cosmic rays, and the interplanetary magnetic field.

We like to recall very briefly the outline of these activities.
